3 records that can be broken in today’s India vs Pakistan match

Date:

The most-awaited clash of the T20 World Cup 2026, between India and Pakistan, is set to take place on Sunday, February 15. It will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

The two teams have played each other eight times in the history of the tournament so far. India have dominated with seven wins while Pakistan have managed to win just once. These seven wins also include the famous one in the final of the 2007 edition, where the Men in Blue were crowned the first-ever champions.

India have won the tournament twice. They are the defending champions, having won the previous edition in 2024. On the other hand, Pakistan have won the trophy once, beating Sri Lanka in the final of the 2009 edition.

Ahead of the high-octane clash, let us take a look at three records that can be broken in the upcoming fixture between India and Pakistan.

#3 Highest Team score between India and Pakistan in a T20 World Cup

The highest team total between India and Pakistan in a T20 World Cup is 160/6, which the Men in Blue made during their stunning and memorable chase at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in the 2022 edition.

Pakistan had scored 159/8 batting first, and India chased down the total on the last ball of the match with four wickets to spare.

India scored 209/9 in their previous game against Namibia, while Pakistan made 190/9 against the USA. With batters like Saim Ayub, Sahibzada Farhan, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav, among others, across both teams, the 160-mark could definitely be crossed by either team.

#2 Highest Individual score between India and Pakistan in a T20 World Cup

The record for the highest individual score between India and Pakistan in a T20 World Cup is held by Virat Kohli. In the same 2022 edition, where the Men in Blue chased down 159, Kohli played one of the all-time great T20I knocks, smashing an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls.

This time around, his own countrymen Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, who are in exceptional form and have a half-century each in the tournament already, can break this record.

From Pakistan, Sahibzada Farhan, who also scored a half-century in their last game, has the potential to break this record.

#1 Most wickets between India and Pakistan in T20 World Cups

The record for the most wickets between India and Pakistan in T20 World Cups is currently jointly held by Haris Rauf, Irfan Pathan, and Hardik Pandya. The three of them have six wickets each.

However, Hardik Pandya can make this record his own by going past Rauf and Irfan. With Rauf not a part of Pakistan’s squad for the ongoing event, the chances of Hardik doing so become all the more higher.

Moreover, the Indian all-rounder is also in good form with the ball, having returned figures of 2/21 from four overs in their last match against Namibia. He also has a solid record against Pakistan in T20Is overall, having picked up 15 wickets from eight innings.
