If you’re doing any kind of farming in Diablo 2 Resurrected, odds are you’re looking at a Chaos Run. While you can farm other places, like Travincal, or the various random Terror Zones that pop up, thanks to Reign of the Warlock, Chaos Runs are a classic. This is where the real endgame grinding takes place, whether you’re farming for powerful items, or trying to eke out that last bit of experience on the way to level 99.
There’s no real one way to do it, but we’re going to give you some tips for Chaos Runs in Diablo 2 Resurrected. It goes without saying though, you’ll need to at least beat the game once on Normal Difficulty, or at least, get access to the final area of Act 4, before you can even do one of these runs.
What exactly is a Chaos Run in Diablo 2 Resurrected?
Chaos Runs in Diablo 2 Resurrected come in two flavors, depending on what you’re after: 8-person groups (EXP), or solo runs (Magic Item Find). You can do a Chaos Run regardless of what difficulty you’re on, but there are level thresholds I recommend before you attempt them. It’s Level 28-30 (Normal), Level 64-66 (Nightmare), or Level 81-83 (Hell). Your goal is to clear this whole dungeon, and ultimately, defeat Diablo at the very end.

This type of grind is also fantastic to see just how strong you are, in general. Thankfully, it’s also easy to start one of these runs. You just need access to the final waypoint in Act 4 (River of Flame), but I recommend completing Normal at least before you attempt it. The goal is to get to the Chaos Sanctuary, which is found northeast from the Waypoint. It’s a nice change of pace, because it’s one of, if not the only location where the path to it isn’t randomized.
The Chaos Sanctuary is the final dungeon of the base D2 experience, so expect lots of Unique, Super Unique, and Champion monsters to be everywhere. It’s where some of the strongest foes await, but also the potential for some of the best loot. If you get lucky and get it as a Terror Zone, it’s one of the best results you could get.
Tips for taking part in a Chaos Run in Diablo 2 Resurrected
While in a Chaos Run in Diablo 2 Resurrected, there is general advice you should be aware of. When fighting enemies, prioritize killing Oblivion Knights first, to avoid their annoying curses. Venom Lords are hard hitting too, and have fire damage, so bring plenty of Fire Resistance. Storm Casters are the least important, but if you’re a caster, keep an eye out because they can Mana Burn.
You want almost all Resistances capped for Diablo, because he uses Fire, Cold, Lightning, and Physical attacks. Below, we’re going to highlight some general tips for exploring, for Loot Runs, and EXP Runs in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
1) Loot Run Tips

If you’re grinding for loot in your Diablo 2 Resurrected Chaos Run, stack lots of Magic Find, but only after you’ve hit your Resistance caps for the difficulty you’re on. In that case, prioritize the Elites scattered throughout the dungeon. These are typically done solo, and often on /Players 1 for general items.
One of the weird downsides about this run is that Seal Bosses and Diablo himself do not drop the full potential loot table of the game. So, if you’re farming for loot, the Elites in the dungeon are going to be your focus. Diablo, Infector of Souls, Lord De Seis, and Grand Vizier of Chaos have more restricted loot tables, so do keep that in mind.
If you’re looking for Runes, and Base Items (non-magic items suitable for Runewords), go with /Players 7 instead, while killing Elites and Minions. I recommend /Players 3 for Diablo, but /Players 1 is just fine as well. Finally, there’s another strategy that some players use called Seal Popping to maximize your drops, explained on Reddit by RedStaggLive. It’s primarily done by players who have access to Teleport, and want to swiftly get as much loot as possible. However, it isn’t affected by Magic Find, so that’s another thing to keep in mind:

2) Exp Runs

Regardless of difficulty, Chaos Runs are the best place to farm EXP in Diablo 2 Resurrected. Now, before you can do these, you’ll probably run Travincal or something, but once you’ve reached this point, consider the Chaos Sanctuary with as many players as you can. Look online for parties though that are doing Chaos Runs, for a more enjoyable time.
Until you reach level 97, the goal is to kill all the Elites and Minions and then to leave and reset it. Diablo’s not really a focus here, but you can kill him for drops if you want. When you hit level 97, the strategy is to go with /Players 7, with 3 party members.
One party member (preferably the fastest) runs to the Star (where Diablo will spawn) and open a Town Portal, and then go defeat one of the three Seal Bosses. The other two players will enter via the Town Portal, and defeat the other two Seal Bosses. From there, it’s a sprint to Diablo himself.
Diablo as a mob, especially at level 94 (Hell difficulty) is going to give an incredible amount of experience. This is the general strategy for high level runs, and it’s easy to keep rinsing and repeating it until you’re all level 99. It might take a while, but it’s worth it, if you want to max your character in Chaos Runs in Diablo 2 Resurrected.
