Fred Hoiberg cut a frustrated figure after Nebraska’s 57-52 loss to Iowa on Tuesday night. The Cornhuskers suffered a surprise loss to the Hawkeyes at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
As Hoiberg was leaving the court, he came across a taunting fan. He swung at the individual, causing the fan’s phone to drop to the ground. His reaction caused quite a stir on X.
A fan said, “Arrest this man this is unbelievable.”
Another added, “Absolutely disgusting, send him to prison.”
One wrote, “Wow @bigten @NCAA this is certainly something to look into. I would say a suspension is warranted for this kind of foul action.”
Some fans were more understanding.
One said, “get the camera out of his face. Iowa fans at its finest. Can’t wait till we play yall in pba/”
Another wrote, “What about the chants directed torwards a former player that definitely isn’t any better.”
One chimed in, saying, “I have no problems with this Fred is a reserved guy but this idiot shoved a camera in his face what’d he expect?
Fred Hoiberg is a respected figure in Nebraska, having coached the program since 2019. He won the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2024 after leading the Cornhuskers to the CBC Championship.
The loss against Iowa was the first time that Nebraska lost to a team outside the Top 15 this season. They’ll get the chance to avenge the 57-52 loss at the end of the season.
Fred Hoiberg gives reason for surprise Iowa loss
Fred Hoiberg’s Nebraska Cornhuskers have lost four of their last six games. The experienced head coach spoke to the press after their latest loss, which was against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
“I thought we got rattled for the first time, really, all year,” Hoiberg said
The game was slow-paced and low-scoring, as Nebraska never managed to hit second gear. Their opponents were happy to play containment basketball and break away whenever the chance was presented.
It’s a worrying sign for Hoiberg, as his team has now scored fewer than 30 points in four of its last six halves. They’ll need to get their act in order before their upcoming game against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
