The Chinese giants have lost four of their seven matches so far, while claiming three draws to sit rock-bottom in the standings with three points from a possible 21.
While Shanghai Port will be looking to bow out of the competition on a positive note, they have failed to win their last five games in all competitions, stretching back to November 22, when they closed out the 2025 Chinese Super League campaign with a 1-0 victory over Dalian Yingbo.
As for Ulsan Hyundai, Wednesday’s tie is a must-win if they are to book their spot in the playoffs, as they sit ninth in the table, level on eight points with eighth-placed Gangwon FC in the final playoff qualifying spot.
Kim Hyun-Seok’s men kicked off the campaign with promise, picking up two wins and one draw from their first three games, but a run of just one point from their subsequent four games has put their quest for continental glory under threat.
While Ulsan Hyundai will be looking to get the job done on Wednesday, they head into the game on a run of four consecutive defeats, stretching back to a goalless draw against Buriram on November 25.
