Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were left astonished as Wrexham were given a home draw against Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round. The Welsh club have reached this stage of the competition for the first time since 1997.
The two Marvel stars were following the FA Cup draw on Monday, February 17, and Reynolds posted a video of his instant reaction to his side getting a home game to Chelsea. He shouted, “We’re at home to Chelsea! What the f*ck!”, soon after the draw.
Thanks for the submission!
Jackson, who was in the room with Reynolds and following the draw, revealed that it was exactly what the Deadpool star wanted and added, “That’s what you wanted! That is what you wanted!”
The Premier League side will be traveling for yet another cup game this season. They take on the EFL Championship side on March 7 at the Racecourse Ground.
The two sides have met just twice in history, with the Blues winning 5-0 in the first game in 2023, followed by a 2-2 draw in 2024 – both in pre-season friendlies – since the Hollywood stars, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, bought the club. This will be the first-ever competitive meeting between the two since 1982, when they met in the old Division Two.
Chelsea eased past Championship sides in previous rounds
Chelsea opened their FA Cup campaign this season in the third round, beating Charlton Athletic 5-1 at The Valley. It was Liam Rosenior’s first game in charge of the club, after taking over from Enzo Maresca, who left the club on New Year’s Day.
The Blues faced Rosenir’s former side, Hull City, in the fourth round, winning 4-0 at the MKM Stadium. The manager was full of praise for his players after the game and said (via ESPN):
“What I’m really realising quickly is not just that they are good players, they are outstanding professionals. I felt it was a professional performance tonight against a very good team pushing for the Premier League. This is not an easy game. Some of our football was everything I want to see but before that the values of what the team stood for made me a very happy coach.”
Chelsea have not had a home draw in either of their domestic competitions this season. Their only cup game at Stamford Bridge this season has been the 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semifinal in January, days after Rosenior took over.
