Todd Golden’s Florida Gators beat Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats 92-83 on Saturday. Golden spoke to the press after the game and made a snide remark on the Wildcats expensively assembled roster.
“They’re playing some good ball,” Golden said.
“They’re talented, obviously, (it’s a) $22 million roster. They’re physical. They’re big. I expect them to do well the rest of the year. They’re a really good team.”
The Wildcats might have one of the most expensive rosters in college basketball, but it’s important to note that they’re dealing with significant injuries. Jaland Lowe, Kam Williams, and Jayden Quaintance missed the Florida game, and their absence was felt throughout the contest.
Todd Golden and the Gators are currently at the top of the SEC standings. The win over the Wildcats improved their conference record to 10-2, and they’re currently ahead of the similarly red-hot Arkansas Razorbacks 19-6 (9-3). Florida has won five consecutive games, and it puts them in a solid spot for the home stretch of the regular season.
Todd Golden and Mark Pope each have six games left in the regular season
Todd Golden’s No. 14-ranked Florida Gators have six games to close out the regular season. They enter these games with a 19-6 (10-2) record plus an ongoing five-game winning streak.
Up next is a home game against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Then they have back-to-back away matchups against the Ole Miss Rebels and Texas Longhorns. They’ll then face off against the No. 21-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks and Mississippi State Bulldogs in a homestead. Their regular-season closer is away to the No. 25-ranked Kentucky Wildcats.
Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats have lost just two of their last ten games. So, there’s little need to panic as they have six more games left in the regular season.
Their next game is at home against the Georgia Bulldogs. Then they’ll travel to Auburn and South Carolina to face off against the Tigers and Gamecocks.
Then there’s a home game against the No. 19-ranked Vanderbilt Commodores to address. They’ll then wrap up the campaign with a trip to face off against the Texas A&M Aggies and a home matchup against the No. 14-ranked Florida Gators.
